COLDWATER, MI. – (WTVB) – The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency received notification on Saturday of the third and fourth local deaths attributed to COVID-19 including the first death in Branch County. The other death reported on Saturday was in Hillsdale County where three people have died from the virus.
The C.H.A. reports the individual from Branch County who passed away was an adult female. According to an obituary announcement from the Dutcher Funeral Home, 89-year-old Nell Catherine Mullens of Coldwater passed away Friday at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital after her battle with COVID-19. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
The Hillsdale County individual who passed away was an adult male.
“Our heartfelt sympathies and prayers go out to the families who have lost their loved ones,” says Rebecca Burns, Health Officer. “Every additional positive case and death reminds us to all do what we can to stay home, stay healthy, and protect ourselves and those around us so that we can stop the spread of this virus.”
The C.H.A. also reported as of 3:00 p.m. on Saturday that the number of Branch County cases has increased to 10 which was a jump of four cases since Friday. The number of positive cases includes 10 cases in St. Joseph County and 37 cases in Hillsdale County.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported on Saturday there were 34 cases in Calhoun County with one death.
The Michigan Department of Corrections reported there were 25 COVID-19 cases at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater. The D.O.C. says there are 207 positive cases reported in nine facilities around the state.
