BRONSON, MI. – (WTVB) – There have been some questions about the statewide ban on open burning that has been issued by Governor Whitmer and the State of Michigan due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bronson Fire Department has posted some information on its Facebook page in hopes of clearing up some of the confusion.
They say fire departments need to be available to respond to medical emergencies. If crews are responding to burning complaints or fires that get out of control, they can’t respond to medicals which could needlessly risk lives.
You can have a campfire but it must be contained in a fire ring and burn only untreated wood. The fire must be kept small and be completely extinguished when people are not with the fire.
Campfires are prohibited within the Bronson City limits unless you have a police department issued permit.
The burning of brush, leaves, grass or yard debris is prohibited until further notice.
You can burn in a burn barrel outside of the Bronson city limits but the barrels must have a proper fitting screen or lid. The holes can be no larger than three-quarters of an inch in size, and rest on nonflammable material extending the feet on all sides. The materials inside the burn barrel must be legal to burn.
The only household refuse that can legally be burned is untreated paper. Any fire containing any other household refuse is illegal.
