BRANCH COUNTY, MI. – (WTVB) – There maybe a statewide burning ban in effect but Branch County firefighters were kept busy Monday afternoon answering three burning complaint calls as well as another call for a grass fire on Adams Road.
Bronson and Lakeland firefighters were dispatched to the grass fire on Adams Road at about 3:40 p.m.. Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber said 40 acres of corn stubble burned. The fire was contained to one field. A Michigan D.N.R. officer was also sent to the scene to investigate.
It was the second fire call of the afternoon for Bronson firefighters. They were earlier called to a burn complaint in the 100 block of West Chicago.
Quincy firefighters were dispatched to a burn complaint report on North Ray Quincy Road while Union City crews were sent on another burn complaint report to the 200 block of Crane Street.
A statewide burn ban is in effect until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to keep firefighters available for medical emergencies.
