COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Lakeland Correctional Facility prisoner has died after testing positive for the COVID-19 virus.
Michigan Department Of Correction spokesman Chris Gautz says 73-year-old Warren Lee Wright passed away Tuesday at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in Jackson.
Wright is the second Michigan D.O.C. prisoner to die from COVID-19. The other was housed at Parnall Correctional Facility near Jackson
According to the D.O.C.’s website, Wright was serving a 40 to 60 year prison sentence after being convicted in Kalamazoo County for second degree murder in 2001.
Wright was one of 46 prisoners at Lakeland who have tested positive for coronavirus. There have been seven negative tests and results from two tests are pending.
The D.O.C. says 15 staff members at Lakeland have tested positive for the virus.
