Curtis J. Barnes, 84, of Coldwater, formerly of Union City, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Drews Place in Coldwater.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Burlington Township Cemetery.
Curt was born on Mary 26, 1935 in Burlington, MI to Harris and Virginia (Ross) Barnes. He grew up in Burlington and also lived in Homer and Union City.
After attending Union City High School, Curt enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served for four years.
He worked pumping gas at the Chevrolet garage in Tekonsha and was later employed in Union City at Duo Coach and American Woodcraft, where he was a cabinet finisher. NASCAR was Curt’s passion and he was an avid race fan.
He also enjoyed nature and liked to watch the birds and water fowl at his home on Union Lake.
Survivors include Curt’s half-brothers, John Lathrop, Jr. and Jerry Lathrop, both of Battle Creek; his cousins, Dorla Horkey of Burlington and Carolyn “Susie” Smith of Union City; and his friends, Renata Hulbert of Union City and Betty Stefan of Tekonsha.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
