COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – One of two Indiana suspects who were charged in the break in and theft of items from storage units on Coldwater’s south side last July was sentenced Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after entering no contest pleas to a pair of charges.
45-year-old Robby Alan McCarty was ordered to serve between two and 10 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections for breaking and entering. He was also given a concurrent one to five year sentence for receiving and concealing stolen property.
McCarty was given credit for 279 days already served in jail. He must also pay $232 in restitution.
In exchange for his pleas, prosecutors dropped eight other counts against McCarty.
Co-defendant 37-year-old Jennifer Renee Oliver entered no contest pleas to charges of attempted breaking and entering with intent and receiving an concealing stolen property over $1,000 but under $20,000.
She was given an 11 month jail sentence with credit for 202 days already served. Her jail time was suspended over probation after nine months. She also had to pay $232 in restitution. Seven other charges were dismissed by prosecutors in exchange for her pleas.
Oliver and McCarty were arrested on Marshall Road just north of Coldwater after several Shaffmaster U-Store-N-Lock storage units on North Angola Road were broken into. .
