COLDWATER, MI. – (WTVB) – A vacancy on the Coldwater City Council was filled Monday night during an electronic meeting as Chad Johnson’s appointment was formally approved.
Johnson takes over the second ward seat formally occupied by long time Council member Chris Pierce who resigned last month for personal reasons.
Fellow Second Ward Council Member James Knaack reviewed the applications and made a recommendation for Johnson to be appointed.
Johnson intends to run for a full term in the November election.
In other business, the Council approved a bid of over $646,000 from Concord Excavating for the Smith and North Monroe Street road and utility improvement project.
Concord had the lowest of six bids submitted for the project which was budgeted for the 2020-2021 fiscal year.
City Manager Keith Baker said in his letter to the Council that funds were allocated from the city’s Act 51 Street Fund for the road reconstruction and from the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities utility funds for the water and wastewater improvements.
Baker says Concord has successfully completed other city projects including the reconstruction of Treat Avenue, West Clarke Avenue and Waterman Avenue.
