ALBION, MI (WTVB) – A 38-year-old Albion man was killed Tuesday morning when police said his speeding car crashed into a tree while being pursued by officers.
The Albion Department of Public Safety says the indicent started at about 12:45 a.m. when they responded to a noise complaint.
A vehicle quickly got away from the area. When they returned to the scene, officers found the suspect had assaulted an individual and heavily damaged the victim’s car.
An officer saw the suspect’s car about 45 minutes and tried to stop it. The suspect’s car eventually went out of control and struck a tree at a high rate of speed.
The suspect was freed from the vehicle and was worked on by paramedics from Albion Community Ambulance while a helicopter from West Michigan Air Care was flying to the scene.
But the suspect died of his injuries prior to the helicopter’s arrival.
The name of the suspect has not been released.. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police provided assistance.
