NORTH ADAMS, MI (WTVB) – Democratic State House candidate Steven Sowards cited health concerns this week in dropping out of the race for the 58th District seat.
The 30-year-old Sowards was the only Democrat in the field. He said the health issues had nothing to do with COVID-19.
Sowards said in a press release that it was not an easy decision but he needed to be able to give all his time and attention to the campaign.
He did not go into further details about his health.
Unless another Democrat steps forward, the winner of the Republican Primary in August would be unopposed in the November general election.
58th District State Representative Eric Leutheuser can not run again due to term limits.
The three Republicans running are Hillsdale Mayor Adam Stockford, attorney Andrew Fink and real-estate agent Daren Wiseley.
