LANSING, MI (WTVB) – A business in downtown Hillsdale is among five in Michigan who have filed federal lawsuits against Governor Whitmer and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services director Robert Gordon.
Bahash & Company, LLC which is doing business as Hillsdale Jewelers along with four Detroit area companies claim their constitutional rights have been violated by the Governor’s Executive Orders during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The plaintiffs claim the executive orders which were designed to keep people home and to stop the spread of coronavirus have “shuttered civil society, placed 10 million people under house arrest and taken jobs away from nearly 1.2 million people, all without due process of law.”
The other companies in the lawsuit are Executive Property Maintenance in Canton; Signature Southeby’s International Realty in Birmingham; Intraco Corporation in Troy; and Casite Intraco, LLC in Troy.
Attorneys for the plaintiffs are demanding a trial by jury.
There has been no response from the Governor’s office on the lawsuit.
