ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – An Angola couple was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after they allegedly led police from several agencies on a chase in Steuben County.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says their deputies were called to the 7500 block of North County Road 650 West in Milgrove Township on a report of a man and woman who appeared to be arguing in a pickup truck with a broken out back window.
Before police could arrive, the vehicle left and was not able to be located. A vehicle matching the description given by a witness was found on I-69 near the Pokagon State Park exit.
The Sheriff’s Department says the 1999 Chevy Silverado pickup truck failed to stop.
A pursuit went south on I-69 to U.S. 20 before it went west on 20 and ended near County Road 600 West.
Initially, the driver was observed to be a woman later identified as 32 year old Kerri Ann Rugg but during the chase, the man and woman switched places.
The driver at the end of the chase was later identified as 32 year old Clayton William Rugg. The Ruggs were both taken into custody without incident and booked into the Steuben County Jail.
Both of the Ruggs were charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle. Clayton Rugg also had outstanding arrest warrants out of Steuben and Allen Counties.
The incident remains under investigation and additional charges may be sought. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were Angola, Fremont and Orland Police, and the Indiana State Police.
