WEST OTTER LAKE, IN (WTVB) – A portion of U.S. 20 in western Steuben County had to be shut down for over two hours Thursday night after a semi tractor trailer hauling spaghetti sauce rolled onto its side.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department said the semi driver was going to fast for the curve on U.S. 20 east of West Otter Lake at about 7:30 p.m. and failed to negotiate it.
The semi went off the north side of the road and struck a guardrail. It appeared it over corrected back to the south going around the curve and then rolled over on to its side.
The driver, 25-year-old Oleksandr Burdeinyi of Norridge, Illinois, was not injured. A Sheriff’s Department news release did not say if he was cited.
Pictures posted on the Sheriff’s Department Facebook page showed some of the load got out of the box trailer but apparently the contents did not get onto U.S. 20.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Indiana State Police, Orland Fire Department, and the Indiana Department of Transportation.
