QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The COVID-19 pandemic continues to eat away at the local events calendar for 2020.
The Quincy Village Council approved a recommendation from Village Manager Brittany Butler during their electronic meeting on Tuesday night to cancel all of the events the Village puts on during June and July.
That includes the Sounds of Summer which was scheduled to start on June 18 with concerts every Thursday night in the Quincy Park. Also scrubbed is the Rotary Club’s 4th of July BBQ.
With the economic downturn because of the pandemic, Butler said it would not be fair to ask Quincy businesses for donations to support these events especially when some may not reopen.
As for the cancellation of the BBQ, Butler said the price of pork chops the Rotary Club gets has increased from $2.50 to between $6 and $7 a pound and they may not be available in time for the BBQ. The higher cost for the pork chops would force the Rotary Club to increase the cost of meals in order to make back their money.
If there is not a second wave of COVID-19, Butler hopes the Village, the Quincy Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary can put something on in the fall.
In other business, it was announced that the Village’s transfer station has reopened. It is available to the public on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m..
The dumpster that was next to the village office was picked up on May 8 and is no longer available.
