COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There will be no live attendance this year because of social distancing guidelines from the COVID-19 pandemic, but Monday’s Memorial Day ceremonies in Coldwater will still be held at the “A Gathering of Flags War Memorial” at Oak Grove Cemetery.
The ceremony will be broadcast live on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB beginning at 10:30 a.m., and will also be streamed on the WTVB Facebook page .
It will feature the “Thank You For Your Service Award” being presented posthumously to World War Two veteran Merlon W. Parks.
He passed away in 2011 at the age of 88. Parks was born in Angola, Indiana and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS New Orleans and the USS Kasahan Bay. His brother Roscoe Parks lives in Coldwater.
Monday’s ceremony will feature a recognition of veterans from all branches, remarks from Coldwater Mayor Tom Kramer and performances of the National Anthem and the Battle Hymn of the Republic by Joe Renshaw.
