COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council will be asked Tuesday night to approve an agrement between the city and Coldwater Community Schools to reinstate a school resource officer.
Public Safety Director Joe Scheid says in his letter to the Council that the city would supply a full time certified police officer who would be assigned to Coldwater Community Schools.
The officer would focus most of their time and effort at Coldwater High School and Legg Middle School but would also be available for programs at the elementary buildings.
To fund the program, Coldwater Community Schools would pay the city to cover 75 percent of the costs.
The agreement is for one year starting on July 1, 2020 and it can be automatically renewed every year after that.
An S.R.O. would be on duty during the regularly scheduled school day. An officer may also be assigned to home high school football and basketball games as well as Snow Ball, Prom Afterglow and graduation. Any additional large events must be requested by school personnel at least two weeks prior to the event and will be staffed at the discretion of the Director of Public Safety after consultation with C.C.S..
