COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Downtown Development Authority recommended to the Coldwater Planning Commission on Wednesday that they explore allowing a retail Recreational Marijuana Establishment to operate in the downtown area.
That business would be in addition to others that would operate within the D-2 Heavy Industrial District.
A public hearing on a group of proposed Recreational Marijuana Establishment Ordinances is scheduled to take place during next Monday’s Planning Commission meeting.
The D.D.A. also on Wednesday recommended to the Planning Commission that the distance a downtown recreational marijuana business can operate from St. Charles Catholic Church and school be lowered from 1,000 feet to 500 feet.
City Manager Keith Baker explained during a nearly 50 minute discussion this option is allowed under a state law.
After the June 1 public hearing, the Planning Commission would make a recommendation to the City Council who has the ultimate authority on enacting ordinances.
The proposed ordinances could be introduced during the June 8 City Council meeting with final adoption possibly taking place on June 22.
