COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council agreed Tuesday to amend language in a city ordinance which will allow a local company to take care of a bird problem.
Asama Coldwater Manufacturing reported recently that a large number of seagulls have taken up residence at the property and are causing damage to the buildings by their droppings.
City Attorney Megan Angell said Asama has gotten a permit from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to cull the birds.
But Angell said the DNR process requires that the permit holder comply with all local ordinances in carrying out the cull.
The ordinance language was changed because it previously prohibited the discharge of weapons inside the City, with a few exceptions, none of which would enable Asama to cull the birds.
