COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution during a special meeting on Friday which would invest funds from the recent sale of bonds as part of the new Branch County Jail project.
County Administrator Bud Norman said this will give the county a chance to get more on their investment and to put more funds into the underground stabilization of the jail.
He said the county was able to keep its Double-A rating since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak which led to a better interest rate for the bonds.
The new jail is scheduled to open in the fall of 2021.
Branch County voters approved a 20 year millage in August of 2018 for the new jail. The request was for no more than 1.25 mills per year with an option to refinance after seven years.
