COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – What is being called a peaceful protest has been scheduled for this Friday afternoon in downtown Coldwater after last week’s death in Minneapolis of George Floyd while he was in police custody.
It has been scheduled to take place at the Four Corners Park by the Branch District Library between 12 noon and 5:00 p.m..
A Facebook post for the event says, “it’s time for unity”.
Social distancing and the wearing of face masks are being encouraged.
Coldwater Deputy Police Chief Patrick Beeman says an Events Request Form has been filled out and officers will be helping to maintain peace and order.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department was scheduled to go over plans with the Police Department on Tuesday.
Posts on social media indicate there will be no marching but there will be standing, kneeling or lying down in protest.
