COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – ProMedica Health Systems search for a buyer of their Coldwater hospital has apparently stalled because of the economic situation that has been created in the healthcare business by the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was announced in January that ProMedica Health Systems based in Toledo and ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital had begun looking for healthcare systems that were interested in purchasing the Coldwater hospital.
Officials were hoping to find a local healthcare system that could support the Coldwater hospital and provide closer resources to the community.
That was before the outbreak of COVID-19 and the ongoing financial difficulties for organizations and businesses which includes healthcare systems.
In a statement released on Thursday by Promedica, interested parties have felt the burden and are unable to continue the process of a possible purchase at this time.
The statement went on to say “this change in direction does not change our commitment to excellent patient care. As our mission states, we will continue to focus on providing for the health and well-being of the Coldwater community.”
In addition, as a member of the ProMedica system, the Coldwater hospital will continue to receive full ongoing support. ProMedica will also seek opportunities to recruit community-based providers and to start or expand specialized services.
