BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – A record high temperature was followed by a fast moving storm late Tuesday afternoon which knocked out power for about 1,600 Consumers Energy customers in the Bronson area.
Coldwater has a new record high for June 9th as the temperature hit 93 degrees at the Branch County Memorial Airport at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. That breaks the old record of 91 degrees set in 2005.
A storm with gusty winds and heavy rain associated with Tropical Depression Cristobal then developed in Steuben County and quickly moved to the north during the 5:00 hour.
There was an unofficial wind gust of 40 miles an hour as Branch County got its first rainfall in 11 days.
While trees and power lines were reported down in the Bronson area, very little rain was reported 10 miles to the east in Coldwater.
The National Weather Service says remnants of Cristobal will bring gusty winds and periodic chances for showers and thunderstorms into Wednesday afternoon. There is also a chance for isolated severe storms.
