BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Some Branch County residents will be spending a second night without power.
Due to the amount of damage to equipment from Wednesday’s severe storms, Consumers Energy is now listing restoration times for Friday for some of their 6,600 Branch County customers who have no electricity.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Christobal produced winds as high as 70 miles an hour and cut power to more than 235,000 customers. That number had been reduced to about 139,000 by late Thursday morning.
As for neighboring counties, Calhoun County still had about 30,000 customers without power while over 1,900 customers were out in Hillsdale County and over 1,500 were out in St. Joseph County.
Consumers Energy reports there were over 5,000 downed wires because of the storm along with 2,500 tree hazards and over 200 broken poles.
The utility expects restoration work to continue through Friday for most of their customers. But those in some of the hardest hit areas such as Branch, Calhoun, Kent, Jackson and Saginaw Counties may not get their power back until the weekend.
