BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – For the first time in a week, the Calhoun County Public Health Department has announced a death related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 26th Calhoun County resident to die after testing positive for the virus was reported on Friday.
There have been 428 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Calhoun County with 78 requiring hospitalization. The Public Health Department says four persons were in Calhoun County medical care facilities on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency reported on Friday there have been 171 coronavirus cases in Hillsdale County since the outbreak began with 163 reported in St. Joseph County and 148 in Branch County.
Free COVID-19 testing will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Branch County Fairgrounds.
The Community Health Agency is teaming up with the Michigan National Guard, the Michigan State Police and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to offer the free tests to Michigan adults ages 18 and older.
Testing will be provided from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Those wishing to be tested should bring a state issued ID. No insurance cards will be requested at this event. Test results will be provided for either event in about a week. Neither event will offer antibody testing.
