COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A suspect in a Saturday morning stabbing death at the Quality Inn in Coldwater is being held without bond in the Branch County Jail.
33-year-old Raiko Moreira-Gonzalez has been charged by Branch County Prosecutors with open murder. He entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment in Branch County District Court over the weekend.
Coldwater Police say they were called to the motel at around 3:00 a.m. Saturday morning in response to a 9-1-1 call.
They found 35-year-old Juan Uresti-Rodriguez unresponsive in his motel room after he was stabbed in the chest.
He was later pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival in a red 2013 Chevy Camaro. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle, which allowed officers to broadcast a Be On the Lookout to other officers in the area.
Michigan State Police Troopers spotted the car on U.S. 12 just west of Quincy and took the driver into custody in connection with the stabbing.
Evidence was recovered from the car. Police say the two men had been arguing before the stabbing took place.
