BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB/WNWN) – Battle Creek Police have released more details into a shooting in the 100 block of West Rittenhouse that left two people dead.
The gunfire went off just after midnight on Tuesday morning as a large group of people had gathered at a birthday memorial to remember 23-year-old Elijah Williams who was shot and killed during a party on the north side of Battle Creek last October.
The fatal shooting victims have been identified as 30-year-old Leon Jackson and 23-year-old Diamond King. They both died after being taken to nearby hospitals.
At last report, no one has been arrested in connection with the shooting.
Battle Creek Police Detective Sgt. Joel Case said during a news conference on Tuesday afternoon that the shooters were likely in a nearby alley when they surprised the party goers. Case said an investigation by police found that two armed people at the party returned fire.
