COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Despite not being able to open indoors yet, the Tibbits Summer Theatre will kick off outside this week.
The opening show of the summer season, “Sing Happy,” is being moved from the Tibbits Opera House to The Ponds in Coldwater in response to the governor’s Executive Order which does not yet allow theatres to open.
According to Tibbits Executive Director, Christine Delaney, they expected to be able to open at least at 25 percent capacity after July 4, but the governor has not recinded the Executive Order to allow theatre’s in this region to open.
Delaney says they have done everything to follow the established protocols to keep audiences, performers, staff and volunteers safe, and they are following through on the phrase ‘the show will go on.’”
“Sing Happy” showcases the best of Broadway, a collection of melodies from past and present New York shows, featuring a small company of favorite Tibbits performers.
Owners of The Ponds, Paul and Cherri Lindsley said, “We love Tibbits and all that it brings to our community. We are grateful they have found a solution to keep their shows active during the pandemic shutdown and are humbled they chose The Ponds.”
Located minutes from the opera house at 368 S. Jefferson Street, The Ponds offers a secluded setting with both space for social distancing and privacy to enjoy an intimate performance. All tickets for the event will be transferred to the new location. Masks will still be encouraged.
The schedule will change slightly with Thursday and Friday performances at 7:00 p.m. and the Saturday performance moved to 2:00 p.m.
