COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A man and his friends out fishing early Sunday morning near Coldwater found themselves like fish out of water.
Branch County Sheriff Marine Patrol Deputies were dispatched to Cemetery Lake in reference to a boat that was found by a fisherman, grounded in the marsh area off the lake about 20 yards.
After tracking down the owner of the boat, the operator said that he was out with friends coming from the Narrows Road boat access to do some fishing. While the operator took his eyes off the route he was traveling, he hit the edge of the marsh, going airborne and ended in the marsh about 20 yards. The operator and his passengers swam to shore, reporting no injuries.
The incident happend around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, and police were called to the scene around 9:45 a.m.
The operator was cited for fail to report an accident and careless driving. The Sheriff’s Office is working with a recovery company to remove the boat.
The incident remains under investigation by the Branch County Sheriff’s Office
