QUINCY TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 13-year-old boy who was driving an Amish buggy was flown to a Kalamazoo hospital with serious injuries on Friday morning after the buggy was struck by a car in Quincy Township.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department reports the crash took place on Briggs Road south of Jonesville Road at about 6:00 a.m..
Undersheriff Keith Eichler says a southbound 2006 Chevrolet Impala driven by a 24-year-old man from Ceresco hit the buggy which was also heading south after it had just pulled onto the road.
A nine-year-old boy who was a passenger in the buggy was operating a light as it was dark at the time of the accident.
The younger boy was treated at the scene by Life Care Ambulance.
Both of the youngsters had Quincy addresses
Quincy firefighters helped set up a landing zone for the Air Care Helicopter.
The Sheriff’s Department says speed was a factor in the crash which is still under investigation.
The names of those involved in the crash have not been released.
