UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – A water main project in Union City recently hit some snags.
Village Manager Chris Mathis said during Thursday’s Michigan South Central Power Agency meeting that the original drill got trapped.
A part of the new water line also got trapped on the north bank of the St. Joseph River.
A larger directional bore drilling machine has been brought in hopes of getting the project back on track. The larger drill will hopefully clear the obstruction and free the smaller drill.
An obstruction on the bank collapsed the hole and trapped the pipe.
A tow truck that is normally used for semis had to be brought in to help pull the pipe free.
A new water main is being placed beneath the river as the current water main is leaking 180,000 gallons per day into the river.
