QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Joint Planning Commission has scheduled a public hearing for August 27 to consider a proposed ordinance that would regulate the keeping of animals in the village.
The public hearing will take place at 7:00 p.m. that evening in the garage of the Quincy Village Hall on Cole Street.
The proposed ordinance has been sent back to the Joint Planning Commission after there was a 3-3 tie vote during the July 21 meeting of the Quincy Village Council.
The tie vote came after a public hearing was held and a previous version of the ordinance was recommended for approval by the Joint Planning Commission.
Scratched from the ordinance would have been animals considered livestock such as cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, and chickens.
The part about chickens drew most of the comments during the public hearing in July.
Exotic or Wild Animals especially those that pose a clear and present danger to humans would also not be allowed.
The ordinance went back to the Joint Planning Commission with comments from the Village Council as to why it failed to pass.
