Allan E. Shedd, 90, of Tekonsha went home to be with the Lord August 14, 2020 at 2:15 PM from his home. He had been on Hospice previously.
A public funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Tekonsha, with Pastor Brian Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha. A public visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 from 4:00-6:00 PM, also at the First Baptist Church in Tekonsha. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation of Union City.
Born April 28, 1930 to Grace (Thomas) and Wilbur “Doane” Shedd, Allan grew up on the family farm and lakes one mile east of Tekonsha on T Drive South. Allan was baptized July 4, 1941, in the Tekonsha Baptist Church. He graduated from Tekonsha School, where he played the drums in the high school band. Allan served in the United States Army from December 1952 to December 1954, stationed in Korea, then with the reserves, and received an honorable discharge. On June 6, 1955, he married Elsie L. Nichols and they had two children: Christine and Mark Shedd. The family purchased a farm on Mason Road in Coldwater, Michigan, and lived there until they later purchased the farm on T Drive South in Tekonsha in 1965, where Allan lived the remainder of his life. Elsie preceded him in death September 13, 1993. He then married Beverly (Barnowski) Hayes on April 28, 1995. She also preceded him in death.
Allan attended Michigan Agricultural College, then worked at Corning Glass in Albion, Woodland Metal in Marshall, Eaton Powdered Metals in Midwest Foundry, and at the Coldwater State Home. He then obtained a position as a meat inspector with the Michigan Department of Agriculture. When the State department closed, he took his experience and transferred to the US department of Agriculture, retiring June 1, 1992. He was a member of the AARP, American Legion, The Gideons International, Good Sam Club, the Tekonsha Planning Commission, Tekonsha Historical Society, and the Calhoun County Genealogical Society.
He leaves behind two children: Christine (Shedd) Stewart and Mark A. Shedd, both of Tekonsha; four granddaughters: Angela Stewart and Jasmine Stewart of Tekonsha, Heather (Samuel) Braun of Litchfield and Katherine (James) Kittle of Tekonsha; one great-grandson, David Allan Braun, still in NICU in Kalamazoo; a special friend, Vicki Olds of Tekonsha, and many friends and relatives. In addition to his wives, Allan was preceded in death by his brother, Nelson Shedd (August 2, 2012).
