LeRoy Allyn Jones, 83, of Sherwood Township, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at home, under the care of family and Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
A public celebration of life will be held at the family home, 757 Division Road, Sherwood on Monday, August 24, 2020 from 4-7:00 PM. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation of Union City.
LeRoy was born August 5, 1937 in Sherwood Township to Arthur and Leota “Vyrl” (Leatherbury) Jones. He graduated from Union City High School in 1956 and served in the Air National Guard of Michigan for 11 years. On November 28, 1970, he married the former Lucille Marguerite “Mag” Pearson in Sherwood. She survives.
LeRoy was employed for 44 years at Quality Springs/TOGO in Coldwater. He was strong, determined and hardworking. Over the years, he was active in the Union City Jaycees and the Union City Athletic Boosters. He served as a Branch County 4-H leader for 25 years and was a member of American Legion Post #196.
A dedicated family man, LeRoy loved coaching his children and watching them play sports. He continued attending Union City football games long after they graduated. Later he enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their sporting events. LeRoy was a lover of the outdoors, whether mowing lawn or sitting, drinking coffee on his deck. He enjoyed going dancing with his wife and traveling most of the 50 states with his family.
He especially enjoyed interacting with his grandchildren and engaging them in activities, including “The Great American Stick Hunt,” where he got them to clean up his yard. LeRoy was always smiling, laughing, and quick with a funny remark. He enjoyed life to the fullest and will be remembered for his positive attitude.
In addition to his wife, Mag, LeRoy is survived by his children, LeRoy Allyn Jones II of Kalamazoo and LuAnn (James) Schott of Battle Creek; his grandchildren, Mandie Marie Jones of Kalamazoo, Taylor Steven Schott of Beloit, Wisconsin, Hailey Nicole Jones of Michigan and Sebastian Allyn Jones of Wilsonville, OR; sister-in-law Marjorie Jones of Sherwood; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, ElRay Jones; and his sister, ValDean Watson.
