DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – The Detroit Tigers begin their final homestand of the season tonight as they host the Kansas City Royals. Matthew Boyd gets the start for Detroit in the opener, while Kansas City sends Danny Duffy to the mound.
Following the two-game set with the Royals, the Cleveland Indians visit Comerica Park for a four-game series.
Tigers first baseman Jeimer Candelario has been named American League Player of the Week. Candelario went 11-for-26 with three home runs, four doubles and nine RBI in eight games last week. It’s his first MLB honor and the first Tiger to be named AL Player of the Week since Nicholas Castellanos in 2018.
Pitcher Jordan Zimmermann has not made his last appearance with the Tigers as he has been moved to the bullpen. Zimmermann made his 2020 debut in a start against St. Louis last week. He began the season on the 45-day Injured List with a right forearm strain.
