HASTINGS, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team dropped its opening Interstate 8 Conference contest Tuesday night, falling at Hastings 2-1.
Hastings scored their opening goal with 18 minutes to play in the first half on a breakaway, then doubled the score six minutes later on a penalty kick.
The Cardinals, who played the entire second half down a player because of a red card ejection, hot their lone goal from Brayden Boyd, assisted by Mukhtar Abdulla, with 8:40 to play in the game.
Joe Closson had three saves in goal in the first half, while Michael Orozco-Aburto had two in the second half, as Coldwater outshot Hastings 12-9.
The Cardinals are now 0-1 in the conference and 1-2 overall. They will host Marshall Thursday.
The Coldwater junior varsity team beat Hastings 9-1. Hisham Zamzami and Ryadh Muflihi each scored two goals, with one each for Laith Musa, Abraham Campos, Arif Ahmed, and Ezaldeen Ahmed.
