BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Calhoun County Public Health Department is reporting a surge of positive COVID-19 cases during the past week.
Between September 24 and October 1, the county reported 212 new cases which brought the total up to 1,352 confirmed cases since the pandemic began last March.
In addition, two Calhoun County residents who tested positive for COVID-19 passed away this week bringing the Calhoun County death toll up to 46.
The number of Calhoun County COVID-19 patients who require hospitalization has also increased to eight.
Calhoun County Deputy Health Officer Brigette Reichenbaugh blames the recent surge on people attending large gatherings where social distancing is not an option.
She and other health officials continue to stress the importance of wearing a mask to help stop the spread of the virus.
