DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – The Detroit Red Wings traded picks with Los Angeles and Minnesota and selected 11 players during the second and final day of the NHL draft.
Detroit added five forwards, five defensemen and one goalie yesterday. The Red Wings picked up goalie Jan Bednar in the fourth round, and forward Kienan Draper in the seventh round. The 18-year-old Draper is the son of former Red Wing center and current director of amateur scouting Kris Draper.
The Red Wings opened up three more spots on the roaster yesterday. Detroit general manager Steve Yzerman did not extend offers to restricted free agents Madison Bowey, Christoffer Ehn and Brendan Perlini.
The three are the latest to be moved from the team as Yzerman has recently let go veterans Jimmy Howard, Trevor Daley, Jonathan Ericsson, and Justin Abdelkader.
