LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Those looking to register to vote or still holding onto absentee ballots should not wait.
October 19th is the last day citizens can register to vote online or by mail for the November 3rd general election. Those looking to register to vote online can do so at Michigan.gov/Vote. Registration by mail must be postmarked by that Monday.
Anyone who misses this deadline can still register all the way through Election Day. They will just have to go to their local clerk’s office to do so and have a document verifying their residency.
In a written statement, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said, “With more than 1 million ballots already returned, we’re seeing an incredible amount of enthusiasm from Michiganders excited to participate in our democracy. Voters have more options than ever before for how to register and cast their ballot, and that’s why we’ve been working around the clock to ensure citizens understand those options and can exercise their rights in the way that works best for them.”
Anyone still hanging onto absentee ballots should get them in the mail by the end of the day on October 19th. Benson says after that they should be dropped off in-person at the clerk’s office to ensure they make it in time.
Ballot drop box locations and more election information can be found at Michigan.gov/Vote.
