BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Battle Creek fire officials say propane tanks resulted in a small explosion inside of a home.
Crews were called to the 400 block of Kendall Street near Vineyard Avenue in northern Battle Creek around 8 p.m. Tuesday and located a large fire in the back of a small structure.
The homeowners told firefighters that they were heating the home with propane and that there were still several tanks inside. Before crews entered, one propane tank exploded and blew several windows off the home and displaced the front porch.
Fire officials spent two hours safely removing the propane tanks and extinguishing the flames. The cause of the fire is believed to be from an unattended candle which then resulted in the propane tank igniting.
Authorities say nobody was injured during the incident.
