JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – Seventh District Republican Congressman Tim Walberg claimed victory early Wednesday morning as he defeated Democratic challenger Gretchen Driskell for a third time.
With 63 percent of the votes counted, Walberg had a 59-41 percent lead over Driskell.
Walberg said in a statement, “It has been an honor to have earned the votes of so many across the 7th District. Despite the challenges of the Coronavirus, we benefited from an incredible swell of grassroots support. This campaign, our grassroots volunteers worked tirelessly to help spread my pro-jobs message. Last Congress, the non-partisan Center for Effective Lawmaking named me Michigan’s most effective congressman and I look forward to returning to Congress to help defeat the Coronavirus, lower prescription drug prices, and expand rural broadband. Working with one another, America will continue to be a beacon of light for generations to come.”
Walberg was elected to a seventh term in Congress. He defeated Driskell in 2016 with 55 percent of the vote when there was also a Liberterian Party candidate on the ballot.
Driskell lost to Walberg by a margin of 54-46 percent when they faced each other in a 2018 head-to-head match up.
