UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Village of Union City was notified by the State of Michigan on Monday morning to immediately begin refilling Union Lake to its normal level.
Those who live on the lake were being advised the water will be rising at a maximum of six inches per day and that it will take no more than five days to get to the “normal pool” which would be a total of three feet.
Some of the refilling is out of the Villages hands and they are largely at the whim of how much water is incoming so it’s possible it will take the lake longer than five days to refill.
The lake was recently lowered so that Grand River Construction could rehabilitate the Riley Dam concrete and catwalk. Village officials said at the time this was an urgently needed repair for crew safety and operations of the dam.
Union Lake had to be lowered three feet for the work to be completed.
