MATTESON TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Prosecutors have filed four charges against a suspect following a shooting incident in Matteson Township last week.
28-year-old Travis McCann was arraigned Friday in Branch County District Court on charges of assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, felony firearm and aggravated stalking.
Bond was set at $100,000. McCann is scheduled to appear for a probable cause hearing on December 1. A preliminary exam was scheduled for December 8.
The Michigan State Police say the incident happened at a residence in the 900 block of West Colon Road at around midnight on November 11.
Troopers say the resident at the property reported that a family member had come to the house unannounced and was upset that the alleged victim had her boyfriend there. She then left the house to tell the suspect to leave.
As the suspect started to leave, investigators say he stopped in the road and fired a gun in the woman’s general direction as well as the house.
The woman’s boyfriend and two minor children were in the house at the time. No injuries were reported.
The suspect was arrested a short time later in Indiana and lodged in the LaGrange County Jail on unrelated charges.
McCann was booked at the Branch County Jail on Wednesday and the formal charges were filed the next day.
Multiple charges that are basically repeats of the same charge again, Obviously setting up another plea bargain that may well result in yet another “guilty plea” that is more serious than any provable charge (over convicting and punishment) . This stuff doesn’t serve justice.
