Donna June West, 91, of Bronson, formerly of Burlington, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020 under the care of hospice.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Sunnyside Cemetery in Vici, Oklahoma. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation in Union City, Michigan.
Donna was born March 4, 1929 in Ottawa, Kansas to Russell and Edna (Conger) Nixon. She was a 1947 graduate of Vici High School and on September 24, 1947 married John Junior West. He preceded her in death in 2013. John and Donna’s many years together produced four children, many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Donna loved to cook and care for her family.
In the early years, the Wests travelled around for John’s oil job, but when the children were young, the family lived in the Spring Arbor, Michigan area, then moved to Burlington in 1972. After the move to Michigan, Donna was employed by K-Mart in Coldwater from 1977-1994 as a sales associate; she was even named Employee of the Year. For the past four years, she had resided at Almost Like Home in Bronson.
Donna was a caring, faithful, forgiving person who belonged to the Sherwood Free Methodist Church. She sang in a quartet as a teen in Oklahoma and was a talented oil painter.
Donna is survived by her children, Judith (Bill) Etchison of Surry, VA, David West of Hennessy, OK, Leann (Matthew) Thornton of California and Russell (Dena) West of Sherwood; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, John, Donna was proceeded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Janet West; brother, Duane Nixon; sisters, Esther Hill and Alice Johnson; and an infant granddaughter, Haley Jo West.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Stacy Herman, Donna’s caregiver at Almost Like Home, and to all the AFC staff for their loving care.
Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice, 1965 Boardman Road, Jackson, MI 49202.
