COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Community Schools Superintendent Terry Ann Whelan reported to the district’s school board on Monday that the opening of the new Lakeland fourth and fifth grade school building is still on schedule to take place after Spring Break.
She mentioned during Monday’s Zoom meeting that a lot of last minute details are getting finished up.
Whelan said Lakeland staff members will start boxing up items shortly with the move from the old Lakeland school taking place right before spring break.
The school will open almost two years after ground was broken on Western Avenue in Coldwater.
The new school came about after voters in the district approved a nearly $30 million millage and bonding proposal in November of 2017 by a vote of 1,867-1,747.
The new school will replace the nearly six decade old Lakeland Elementary School building.
The funds from the millage have also paid for new buses and building improvements throughout the district.
