HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – 58th District State Representative Elect Andrew Fink was sworn in Sunday by Michigan Supreme Court Justice Stephen J. Markman on the Hillsdale College campus, which is Fink’s alma mater.
On hand for the swearing in were his wife Lauren and five children, his parents and Hillsdale College President Larry P. Arnn.
Fink was sworn in by Justice Markman in front of the college’s statue of renowned abolitionist Frederick Douglass.
“Frederick Douglass visited this district twice during some of the darkest days of the fight against slavery and for the preservation of our union,” Fink said. “I was sworn into office standing between the statues of Fredrick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, whose legacies are constant reminders of the courage and prudence required to preserve and defend the Constitution, free government, and rights of all citizens during even the most difficult circumstances.”
Fink concluded the ceremony by stating: “It was a particular honor to be sworn in by Justice Markman, who taught me Constitutional law on this very campus, and has had such a distinguished career. His record of public service to the people of Michigan and to the United States is one I strive to emulate in the years to come.”
Fink also said that as the state faces new challenges, the principles of the people of Branch and Hillsdale counties — including hard work, respect for all citizens, and strong family values — will keep Michigan on the right path.
He will officially take office on January 1, 2021.
