WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTVB) – After initially voting in favor of the original COVID-19 relief package last week, Seventh District Republican Congressman Tim Walberg was in the minority on Monday as he voted against a request from President Trump to increase the stimulus payment from $600 to $2,000.
The House passed the request 275-134 as 44 Republicans joined Democrats in voting yes.
Only two Democrats voted no.
Michigan Republicans Fred Upton of St. Joseph and Jack Bergman of Watersmeet were among the 44 G.O.P. House members who voted in favor of the $2,000 stimulus checks. Upton and Bergman both say the extra money is needed.
Those opposed have raised concerns about the additional $463 billion it will cost the government.
All Senate Democrats are on board, but it’s not known how many Republicans will support the President’s request.
