LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – While the state had been seeing improving COVID-19 metrics for about a month, the decline in the case rate has plateaued, and there has been an increase in the daily positivity rate in the past week in Michigan, keeping it more than three times the 3% threshold that public health officials look for to show community spread is controlled.
The state’s chief medical executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun Friday said the state is at a “pivotal moment” and that she’s worried December gatherings may be leading to an increase in cases. Khaldun also said she’s concerned about the arrival of a COVID-19 variant that is more transmissible.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Friday announced 3,625 more cases of the virus had been confirmed in the state and 38 more related deaths reported.
That brought the total number of confirmed cases to 516,376 since the virus was first detected in Michigan 10 months ago and the total number of associated deaths to 3,625.
