WHITMORE LAKE, MI (WTVB) – Top-ranked and defending state champion Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central was just to much for Bronson on Tuesday night as they defeated the Vikings three games to nothing by scores of 25-15, 25-20, 25-15 in the MHSAA Division Three Girls Volleyball Quarterfinals.
The state volleyball tournament resumed on Tuesday night following a two month pause of high school sports in the State of Michigan in an effort to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
The first game was tied 13-13 before Monroe St. Mary closed out the game with a 10-2 run.
Bronson grabbed an early lead in the second game and only trailed 22-18 before the Kestrels took a commanding two games to nothing lead in the match.
The Vikings fell behind in the third game and could not recover as Monroe St. Mary punched their ticket for the state semifinals at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek.
It turned out to be the last match for Bronson seniors Skye Woodman and Meagan Lasky.
Woodman and Karissa Gest each had 11 kills. Woodman also had two blocks while Gest and Jadyn Cary both had 10 digs.
