BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A Michigan State Police Trooper was one of three persons injured Sunday night in a head on crash in Battle Creek.
The Trooper who was injured has been identified as Christopher Haywood who was on duty at the time.
State Police say the two vehicle crash which involved Haywood’s State Police patrol car took place on West Columbia Avenue near Stevens Road at about 10:00 p.m..
They stated Haywood was traveling west on Columbia Avenue when the other vehicle crossed the center line and struck the patrol car head on.
Haywood along with the two occupants of the other vehicle were all taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. They suffered severe but non life threatening injuries.
It’s believed the driver of the second vehicle who is said to be a 32-year-old man from Kalamazoo was at fault and is suspected of operating while impaired by a controlled substance.
The State Police investigation is still ongoing. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, Battle Creek Police, LifeCare Ambulance, EMS Battle Creek Fire Department and Bud’s Towing assisted.
