CINCINNATI, OH (WKZO AM/FM) – Former Michigan State University assistant coach Mike Tressel is joining the Cincinnati Bearcats staff as defensive coordinator.
Sources said Tressel would leave the Spartans, where he had worked since 2007 mostly as a linebackers coach. Tressel was a graduate assistant at Ohio State from 2002 to 2003 and followed then OSU defensive coordinator Mark Dantonio to Cincinnati and again to Michigan State.
Tressel is also the nephew of former Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel and grandson of former Baldwin-Wallace head coach Lee Tressel.
Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is going pro. Fields announced on Twitter Monday that he has declared for the 2021 NFL Draft. He helped the Buckeyes to two Big Ten titles and consecutive CFP appearances for the first time in school history.
Fields threw for 5,373 yards, 63 touchdowns and just nine interceptions while adding 867 rushing yards and 15 more scores during his time in Columbus.
