UNDATED (WTVB) – If you live in Michigan, check and double check your Mega Millions tickets. You might be a billionaire, before taxes of course.
Somebody in Michigan hit the Mega Millions $1 billion jackpot on Friday night. That unidentified person had the only ticket to match all six numbers.
The white balls drawn were 4, 26, 42, 50 and 60. The gold Mega Ball was 24.
Before Friday’s drawing, it was announced the jackpot had a cash value of $739.6 million.
The Michigan Lottery says the winning ticket was bought at the Kroger store at 47650 Grand River Avenue in Novi. They won’t know the identity of the winner until that person contacts the Lottery.
Whoever has the winning ticket now has two options. They can take an escalating annuity that offers an initial payment, then annual payments for 29 years. The player also may select a one-time cash payment of about $739 million. If a player selects the cash option, they will receive about $530 million after tax withholdings.
Lottery officials say it is the 18th Mega Millions jackpot won in Michigan over the years; the last one was a prize shared with Rhode Island on October 13, 2017.
Friday’s giant jackpot is the second largest prize in the game’s history, below the $1.537 billion won in South Carolina on October 23, 2018 which is still the world’s largest lotto prize ever awarded on a single ticket.
The jackpot was last won at $120 million in Wisconsin on September 15. With someone finally hitting the jackpot on Friday night, it goes back to a paltry $20 million for Tuesday’s drawing.
